1. Art & Writing I am a writer / author of children's books. I LOVE writing. I love it so much I need to have pens, pencils & paper handy all the time. Paperclay & oil pastels are my jam. I LOVE to sculpt, draw, paint. My fave color is purple & my subject of choice are gnomes. I love gnomes. I used to create fairies, fantasy & children's illustrations with Photoshop & my mouse (digital art). You can see more here: http://www.kathycyr.weebly.com
I LOVE & appreciate books so much. My favorite genres to read are Middle Grade fantasy (Harry Potter, etc.) & Cozy Mysteries. I could practically live in a book store or a library. Speaking of books, it would be cool to build & live in a Hobbit home. (A tree house would be cool, too.)
I love retro / vintage things. My personal teddy bear is about 37 years old. I named him Arthur a long time ago. He's flat & his tag is faded, but I love him. My dream car is a Ford Woody Wagon between the years of 1939 & 1941 or a Ford Anglia 105E (The Weasley's flying car in Harry Potter). I always wanted to restore a Ford Woody Wagon. I appreciate old cars, appliances, etc. because they were built to last.
I love animals. They are wonderful & fascinating. Some of my absolute faves are Maine Coon cats, British Shorthair cats (brown or cinnamon with the gold eyes), donkeys, pandas, elephants, etc.
I met my husband when we were little kids. He saved me from drowning. We lost touch, but reconnected in our 20's and have been together ever since. Together for 25. Married for 24. He's my best friend, but he's also awesome, quick with the comebacks, smart and funny. We have two beautiful kids who just as smart alec as he is.
6. Movies & TV
I love old movies, especially musicals. Give me movies with Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Dean Martin or Bing Crosby, but I also love movies from the 80's. (That was the best time for movies, wasn't it?). I don't watch too many TV shows from the US. I love alot of British TV shows with one or two from Ireland and New Zealand thrown in.
I love all kinds of music, bands, singers, etc. I love Foreigner, Tesla, Def Leopard, Posion....see a theme here? lol. I was also into R & B in the 80's and 90's, too. At one point, I LOVED New Kids On The Block.
I am an introvert. I don't freak out in crowds, but being with people I love & trust makes me the most comfortable. I write, text, email better than I talk. The hubby is the extrovert, though I think our kids take after him for the most part. If someone were to classify me, it would probably be geeky, dorky, etc. lol. My comebacks and humor never quite hit the mark. lol. It doesn't stop me from trying, though.
9. Broke Life Thrift
BLT was / is all about making ends meet and paying the bills due to 2020 being so incredibly crazy, but since we've been doing it for a while now, the Hubby & I have fallen in love with it and hope to make it a full time thing one day. Our shop name came about because the Hubby was being funny and using Broke Life in various forms in various sentences and I kept asking, "What does that mean?" until one day he added thrift to the end of it and it was like a light bulb went off above my head. It was perfect. Being broke is something everyone can relate to. Wanting to find a good deal is also something people can relate to. It's catchy. Between the name, our logo and it's colors, well, I think it just works.
As every reseller says, sourcing (thrifting) is the fun part of the business and that's true, but I've also discovered that the thrifting community is pretty fun and interesting. Since I run our social media accounts, I'm getting to know some of you every day and I like it alot. The thrifting community is warm, friendly & inviting.
I could go on and on. LOL, I've been known to do that, but that's it for me, my friends. I hope you enjoyed 10 Things You Didn't Know.
